Do-It-Yourself Electrical Projects

Many DIY electrical projects are easy to do and don't require an electrician*. Here are a variety of common home projects involving lighting and electrical service. Remember to turn off the power at the electrical panel before beginning work and post a note at the panel so no one turns it on while you are working. Check with your local authority about whether you need a permit, all pertinent regulations and whether a licensed electrician is required for the work you are planning.

*Some community regulations or home owner insurance policies may require that all electrical work be done only by a licensed electrician.
